Mother’s Day Classic Caroline Springs
Hello dear Reader.
How did you spend Mother’s Day? I am sure you were out with the family celebrating this special day…
Well, I was at the the amazing Caroline Springs Mother’s Day Classic was celebrated for the third year on Sunday 14th May, organised by Nicole Oborne, who appeared on Channel 9’s Postcards and has been on the Board of the Mother’s Day Classic for 8 years.

The Mother’s Day Classic was founded in 1998 by Mavis Robertson AM, Former National Chair of Women in Super (WIS) and Louise Davidson AM. Mavis witnessed a breast cancer fun run overseas and she and Louise were inspired to create something similar in Australia. At the time, Industry Superannuation firms were noticing that breast cancer was one of the common reasons for accessing death and disability benefits.
Creating an inspiring event to raise critical funds for breast cancer research was the perfect way for WIS to advocate for women’s health and so the Mother’s Day Classic was born. Since 1994, the 5-year survival rate has increased from 76% to 92% – statistical proof that research is making a difference. BUT, there is still a long way to go before women stop losing their lives to breast cancer. The Mother’s Day Classic raises funds through community fundraising, online fundraising, donations, and registration fees.

Caroline Springs Lake is where the event is held as it is the perfect place. The main sponsors was Fernwood Sydenham who also ran a raffle and the warm up classes before the events. Other sponsors were Gotham Doughnuts, Sanela’s Fifth Avenue Collection (costume jewellery), Surprise Vending – serving cotton candy and also available for hire for your events, a kids activity table, truffles, cupcakes, scarves for the doggies from Mochi Pet Grooming refreshments and finally medals for everyone.

There were 360 people who registered for the runs or the Survivors walk. By 7:40am, started off with the serious runners….and the last group was at 9:20am….. The area around Caroline Springs lake was a sea of pink! All in all everyone from babies to toddlers to adults of all ages including numerous doggies participated in the memory of a loved one or just to raised funds and awareness for this invaluable cause.
It was great volunteering as a photographer and meeting lots of people and talking to them about their cause….A much celebrated day for everyone. For sure…it will grow and get bigger. Do you want to be a sponsor or take part? For more information, please visit www.mothersdayclassic.com.au
